Welcome 3rd Grade students and parents!

Welcome to back! My name is Joe Hernandez and I will be your child’s third grade teacher. This is my sixth year teaching at Our Lady of Peace School. I have over 15 years of experience working in various elementary school environments. I am excited to have the opportunity to teach your child and look forward to working with you. It is my goal to provide all students with an educationally challenging, yet fun, experience in my classroom.
Third grade is a year where crucial skills are introduced and need to be mastered. I have high expectations for your child and I will do all that I can to help your child achieve those expectations. Responsibility, study and organization skills will be very important. Please be sure that your child comes to school each day with the materials and supplies needed. At home, students need to complete all homework assignments or projects, study for tests and quizzes and read for at least 30 minutes every day. There will be meaningful homework assigned every day we meet for class. Opportunities for extra credit points will be offered to the class as a whole, but solely at my discretion.
One new initiative that I will be introducing this year will be blended learning. You will notice that the classroom environment has changed and that your student will be rotating through stations to have multiple opportunities to work on a specific skill. A key piece to the classroom will be the utilization of technology on a daily basis. In order for this to take place we have created google accounts that are managed by the school to give each child access to word processing, slide presentations and charts/spreadsheets. Student accounts follow the this template firstname.lastname@olpeaceschool.org. Online assignments will be given through google classroom. Students can log in at https://classroom.google.com
Finally, I want you to know you are one of your child’s most important assets, and as such I would like to keep the lines of communication open. I am available to talk with you Monday through Thursday after school. If at any time you have a question, please don’t hesitate to approach me after school or via email at jhernandez@olpeaceschool.org. I am looking forward to a very successful year and know that you are too.
Mr. Hernandez

Please wear mass uniform on mass days. Our school mass day is Friday of each week.
