Hello! I am so eager to be part of Our Lady of Peace School and to be teaching the 5th grade level. I have been in the educational field for eight years, with the 2022-2023 school year being my sixth year as a 5th grade teacher. I have a BA in Social Science, with a Minor in Psychology, and am currently enrolled at LMU to complete my Master's in Education. I feel fortunate and blessed to be in a position to help continue to guide your children toward faith, knowledge and service at Our Lady of Peace School.
Fifth grade is the last stop before middle school for many students, and this year marks many changes - both in the curriculum and the social activities for students. OLP's comprehensive fifth grade curriculum will help your child reach all their learning and Catholic objectives for the year and give them the knowledge and confidence they need as they head into sixth grade.
In fifth grade, students will practice more complex mathematical concepts such as exponents, decimals, fractions and more. They will read and understand new vocabulary in science and social studies, as well as significantly improve their reading and grammar skills. Students who read frequently are able to develop a better vocabulary. Fifth graders will continue to develop and refine their individual writing style and create more complex writing projects in both fiction and non-fiction. Students should be comfortable with basic grammar and spelling rules, and many will enjoy writing as an outlet for emotions.
Daily assignments and homework will always be posted on our Google Classroom, and the main form of communication will be through ClassDojo. On our first day, I will review our Classroom Guidelines, as well as send home instructions on connecting to my Classdojo and Google Classroom.
